"The Wisest, the Brightest and the Meanest of Mankind"

July 16, 2011

Francis Bacon was not only one of the greatest writers, but also a great English statesman, philosopher and politician. The great classical poet Alexander Pope regarded him as “the wisest, the brightest and the meanest of mankind”. Bacon is the Father of English essay. His essays are famous for their wit and aphoristic style. Most of the lines from his essays have always been acclaimed as immortal quotes. For example, we may take the following lines that have become proverbs: Revenge is a kind of wild justice; which the more man's nature runs to, the more ought law to weed it out. Wives are young men's mistresses, companions for middle age, and old men's nurses. In charity there is no excess. Read not to contradict and confute; nor to believe and take for granted; nor to find talk and discourse; but to weigh and consider. Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested : that is, some books are to be read only in ...

No Jargon of Plato, Aristotle

August 28, 2010

No Jargon of Plato, Aristotle A person who is fundamentally honest doesn't need a code of ethics. The Ten Commandments and the Sermon on the Mount are all the ethical code anybody needs. - Harry S. Truman for Bernard C., Katryn D., Brenda Youngerman 1. No jargon of Plato, Aristotle No Nietzsche No Kant Only simple truth I have in mind Solid truth Sermon on the Mount takes care of us 2. No Freud, no Marx I find the key A golden key There it is Ten Commandments Nuclear powers will shiver They don’t know what they are doing 3. What are you waiting for How far away from truth you are The solution , find at last Think of the Ten Commandments Beautiful earth is paralyzed Because you don’t remember Sermon on the Mount Because you don’t remember Ten Commandments Come home out of dragon’s trap Come home 4. All have Sinned

February 23, 2011

All have Sinned "Playboy magazine has run a photo shoot featuring Jesus Christ among topless models in it's Potuguese edition. The spread was ostensibly a tribute to Nobel Prize-winning author Jose Saramago’s The Gospel According to Jesus Christ, but Hugh Hefner’s headquarters have reacted with outrage. The pictures show a long-haired, glowing Jesus watching two models in a lesbian clinch". 1. Playboy makes my grief Stronger than my joy jesus, our strength Father of life To whom our life we owe Playboy news is false alas,I know not why The ignorant defame the Prince of Peace Everything has been reflected upon Except how to live To clear the dread, the absurd, the alienation- The frozen sea within us- One cataclysmic moment we need. We need to see our Pilot In the midst of postmodern blasphemy Irreverence about sacred Son of God 2. Only by prayer Find your true self True identity Marijuana nor lycerjic acid nor Playboy Nor morning draughts of wine Only with bowin...

Violence in Nebraska School

January 05, 2011

Tragic-most tragic-Nebraska school Where a student died After shooting two officials We are into 2011 Violent 2010 is behind us Let Heaven instruct my mind Let us say a long adieu to violence My New Year celebration is my Prayer "Lord! as in heaven, on earth thy will be done" Poets don’t warn. Haven’t the vision Haven’t the sense of duty. US drone striking Pak-Afganistan border At the moment, I feel Nuclear attack is ready. It is real. Earth can’t escape it. Death for Earth is life for Satan. The cancer will eat us away But all people are asleep to the nightmare As they can’t bear it. Even sage poets unable to put in order Fiendish aberration of human nature.

A Popular Evaluation of Tiger Woods

August 23, 2010

A Popular Evaluation of Tiger Woods Tiger Woods (b.1975), the winner of 16 World Golf Championships, PGA Player of the Year ten times, earned about $110 million from winnings and endorsements. He is an undeniable force in Golf Championships. He has more career major wins and career PGA Tour wins than any other active golfer. He is the youngest player to achieve the career Grand Slam, and the youngest and fastest to win 50 tournaments on tour. Woods is only the second golfer, after Jack Nicklaus, to have achieved a career Grand Slam three times. His ethnic make-up is quite interesting. Woods is “half Asian (one-quarter Chinese and one-quarter Thai), one-quarter African American, one-eighth Native American, and one-eighth Dutch" (“Earning His Stripes". AsianWeek. ). Tiger Woods, admitted that he had been unfaithful to his wife, declared "an indefinite break from professional golf”. Woods has been banned from dating until his imminent divorce from wife Elin Nordegre...

The Devil Self-conceited

January 09, 2011

The Devil Self-conceited In Hiroshima many years ago The heavens were clear and birds chirping. Nuclear bomb exploded Quoth Satan ‘‘Behold my power’’ “Nonviolence is power” retorted the Prophet. “Why, I can annihilate earth.” “Excuse me…” “Yes, oh yes. This alone is power.” “Certainly not.” “ I’m stronger than God.” “Nonsense. You are morally perverted.” Should I narrate the discussion futile further? Why was the Devil self-conceited? Well, here’s the sum and substance: Satan thrives on our disobedience to the Word The Devil says- "TNT* tons* & tons Billion tons Nuclear missiles piled on missiles Yes, look! I’m alive again After Aug 6, 1945. Hail, terrorism! I’ve conquered! I assert frankly Lamb can’t defeat Tiger. Do I fear God? Never. Nations belligerent Obey my commands Explode nuclear bombs. Human organs boil away And the planet vanishes. O sweet Firestorms! Who instigates me? I don’t know." NOTES TNT: A high explosive ...

Short Story Facts

December 22, 2010

Short Story Facts We find in the contemporary short stories an extraordinary quality of characterization, dialogue and situation. Several of these stories reveal the tense moments leading to an apt climax. The violence appearing as predominant theme in some short-story writers is not surprising, because our planet is now almost accustomed to the sinister storms of terror, nuclear war, moral and sexual depravity in all walks of life. In a few stories , we find the authors demanding freedom not of principles but of instincts, a freedom to live in ‘a lawless universe where the only master is the inordinate energy of desire’ (Albert Camus, The Rebel ). These short stories are ‘charmingly unexpected, and unexpectedly charming’. What is extraordinary is that these authors are at the peak of their style-unpolished, vigorous, terse and suggestive. In several stories, we notice the use of satire, but it is a gentle criticism of contemporary life and manners, devoid of any contemp...

Matthew Arnold's Poetry: Inner Romanticism

June 05, 2011

Matthew Arnold is the greatest elegiac poet in the world of poetry. His most famous elegiac poems are The Scholar Gipsy, Thyrsis, Dover Beach, A Summer Night, Rugby Chapel. His elegiac poetry is more than a mere expression pf sorrow. His poetry invariably becomes reflective and philosophical. Poetry according to Matthew Arnold is a criticism of life. This is quite true about his own poetry. Garrod rightly says: “His poetry, profoundly melancholic, runs from the world, runs from it, as I think, hurt, hurt in some vital part. It believes itself able to sustain life only in the shade.” His poetry is a spontaneous expression of “his native melancholy, of the Virgilian cry over the mournfulness of mortal destiny” (Hugh Walker). The above facts are easily substantiated by the following immortal lines from Dover Beach: Ah, love, let us be true To one another! for the world, which seems To lie before us like a land of dreams, So various, so beautiful, so new, Hath really neithe...
