Shakespeare is the greatest poet of the world. His most famous plays are Macbeth, King Lear, Hamlet, Julius Caesar, Othello, Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night, As You Like It, The Comedy of Errors, Much Ado About Nothing, Richard II, The Winter’s Tale, Cymbeline . William Blake's use of Symbols

Symbolism in poetry developed out of the  Dada  activities of  World War I , and the most important center of the symbolist poets was  Paris . Even before the modern age, the visionary poet Blake used symbols in his poetry. For example, in his lyric "The Lamb", we find that the lamb is a symbol of Christ:  Little Lamb I'll tell thee,   Little Lamb I'll tell thee: He is called by thy name, For he calls himself a Lamb: He is meek & he is mild, He became a little child: I a child & thou a lamb, We are called by his name.   Little Lamb God bless thee.   Little Lamb God bless thee. The lamb is an apt symbol for the Prince of Peace Jesus. The poet uses another symbol in the above lines. Jesus is like "a little child".  Jesus is simple, humble, innocent and sinless like a child.
