Obesity

Tom Harkin aptly remarks: “Obesity now contributes to the death of more than 360000 Americans a year. The incidence of childhood obesity is now at epidemic levels. Alarm bells are going off all over the place. But our government has done virtually nothing”. In othe countries also, an increasingly large number of people are afflicted with this disease due to very unhealthy life style.  About 5% of  Indians have this problem.
The fact is that obesity increases the possibility of several dangerous diseases like heart stroke, diabetes and certain types of cancer. Obesity reduces our life expectancy.
The question arises how to fight fat, so that we are able to live a normal healthy life. We have to keep in mind two most important things to fight obesity. The first is regular exercise.  Regular walking is the best, easiest and cheapest exercise. In fact, our two legs are our two doctors. Simply walk back and forth. “I simply find it restful to think of my body take me for a walk”.
The second very important tip is to eat those foods that have low-fat. As far as possible, we should refrain from using butter and cream. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables. We should avoid high fat salad dressings. We should reduce the excessive intake of high cholesterol foods.
