The significant thingfor a haiku poet to remember is not the number of lines he has chosen for his haiku. The most important thing for a haiku poet is to have passion for truth, beauty and spiritual power.   Great haiku poets always create ‘haiku moment’   that with its delicate rainbow hues produces an extraordinary emotional hold on the readers. In the poetry of Homer, Sophocles, Virgil, Dante and Shakespeare we find this ‘haiku moment’   though they didn’t write haiku. This is precisely the case with the following immortal lines uttered by Lear with   Cordelia’s dead body in his arms in Shakespeare’s King Lear:    Thou’it come   no more Never, never, never, never, never! Moreover, it must be added that the use of 'kigo' (season word) should not be mandatory for writing a

All have Sinned

All  have Sinned "Playboy magazine has run a photo shoot featuring Jesus Christ among topless models in it's Potuguese edition. The spread was ostensibly a tribute to Nobel Prize-winning author Jose Saramago’s The Gospel According to Jesus Christ, but Hugh Hefner’s headquarters have reacted with outrage. The pictures show a long-haired, glowing Jesus watching two models in a lesbian clinch". 1.  Playboy makes my grief Stronger than my joy jesus, our strength Father of life To whom our life we owe Playboy news is false alas,I know not why The ignorant defame the Prince of Peace Everything has been reflected upon Except how to live To clear the dread, the absurd, the alienation- The frozen sea within us- One cataclysmic moment we need. We need to see our Pilot In the midst of postmodern blasphemy Irreverence about sacred Son of God 2. Only by prayer Find your true self True identity Marijuana nor lycerjic acid nor Playboy Nor morning draughts of wine Only with bowin

Inspirational Quotes for Today

Inspirational Quotes for Today We can create heaven on earth if we peruse the following inspirational quotes from the Bible. They will help us as the storms of sin and trouble nowadays afflict our inner peace. This is evident from terrorist attacks, and unfortunate happenings in Afghanistan, Egypt and Gaddafi's wayward regime: You have heard that it was said to those of old, "You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment". But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, "Raca!' shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, "You fool!' shall be in danger of hell fire. Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Agree with y

Tender Mercies of Jesus

Tender Mercies of Jesus I am an historian, I am not a believer, but I must confess as a historian that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of history. Jesus Christ is easily the most dominant figure in all history.--H.G. Wells                                                    i. The Top Three Features of Poetry

The Top Three Features of Poetry 1. The poets  show their preference for open vowel sounds, rich and fluid feminine endings, and the balance of phrase and clause. The poems aptly reveal the musical ear of these artists . The sound effects contribute to the final impact of the poems. It is difficult to agree with an uninspiring nihilism of Jean Baudrillard “Everything has already happened…nothing new can occur.” Great poetry is full of moral ideas; ‘the idea is the fact’. Nancy Scheper-Hughes (b. 1944) wisely says: “If we cannot begin to think about social institutions and practices in moral or ethical terms, then anthropology strikes me as quite weak and useless.”  2. The images in a poem become a true mark of true genius, when they are moulded by the passion present in the poet’s mind. S. T. Coleridge (1772-1834) says, “ Images, however, beautiful and true to nature and accurately presented in words, do not of themselves become a mark of poetic excellence. They become proofs of ori

The Truth about Short Story

The reputation of the  short story as a serious and formidable genre was firmly established after Allan Poe published review of Hawthorne’s Twice-Told Tales in Graham’s Magazine (1842), but it should be added that the tradition of short story  dates from ancient times.          The popularity of the short story can be judged by the fact that a great number of renowned authors from several countries like Chekhov, E. M. Forster, D. H. Lawrence, Joseph Conrad, W. Somerset Maugham, H. E. Bates, James Joyce, Katherine Mansfield , L. P. Hartley, Sherwood Anderson, Kafka, Dorothy Parker , Hemingway and several others chose this genre of literature to express the truth and reality with extraordinary success. Who can forget “the Ann Beatie and Raymond Carver-led short story renaissance of the 1980s” (Dennis Loy Johnson)?             The importance of the short story was very well understood even in 1741 when earliest American magazines like Benjamin Franklin’s General Magazine, and Historica

Where is the Short Story?

Where is the Short Story? Why did E.M. Forster Stop Writing Fiction? The triumph of Matter over Spirit , two world wars, the postmodern machine society-all these seem to have shut “the door which leads to soul”. Hannah Arendt in The Human Condition aptly criticizes the modern age : “ It is quite inconceivable that the modern age-which began with such an unprecedented and promising outburst of human activity-may end in the deadliest, most sterile passivity history has ever known.” The problem for the short-story writer in this milieu is how to write stories which have genuine emotional depth, and directness in the presentation of situations.  E. M. Forster  had experienced this difficulty:       I think one of the reasons why I stopped writing novels is that the social aspect of the world changed so much. I had been accustomed to write about the old-fashioned world with its honor and its family life and its comparative peace. All that went, and though I can think about the new
