Remembering Barbara Billingsley

This poem is a tribute to Barbara Billingsley’s sudden death. She is undoubtedly century’s quintessential mom.

 Remembering Barbara Billingsley

i.

Stormclouds
upset everything
supermom, ideal wife passes away
watching angels
always they watch
I pray for the departed soul

ii.

No more prend thy triumph, O Death!
you are no more than a haggard spectre
her memory is just behind
wakes in my soul Barbara’s charming art
the hounds of death unable to tread her down
I say to my soul: ‘Be comforted’
her memory is here
every day, and all day long
with healing power of memory
every burthen is light
Barbara’s art will never submit to death

iii.

With trembling heart
we see night’s dark domain
death’s black jaws
but Leave it to Beaver
and loving mother are immortal
 death is helpless
she lives!

iv.

Century’s quintessential mom
all things rise in proof
pearl-necklace wearing perfect wife
lives, relives, never dies
farewell!-a last adieu!
glorious Barbara Billingsley
